For many professionals, especially job seekers and those navigating career transitions, this voice can be relentless.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But here\u2019s the truth:<\/strong> If you let your inner critic call the shots, it will hold you back from the success you\u2019re working so hard to achieve.<\/p>\n<p>When something goes wrong\u2014you bomb an interview, make a mistake on a project, or get passed over for a promotion\u2014it\u2019s easy to beat yourself up. You might find yourself thinking things like:<\/p>\n<p>  \u201cI\u2019m terrible at interviews. I\u2019ll never get hired.\u201d  \u201cI always mess things up.\u201d  \u201cI\u2019m not cut out for this.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>While it\u2019s important to be responsible for your actions and take accountability for what you can control, there\u2019s a big difference between \u201cI suck at interviews and will never get better!\u201d and \u201cI need to do more interview prep next time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s easy to let that negative emotion consume you. You\u2019re frustrated. You\u2019re emotional. You wanted a different outcome. However, it\u2019s important for both your personal well-being and professional success to practice shutting down this overly critical voice in your head.<\/p>\n<p>These kinds of thoughts might feel <em>honest<\/em> in the moment, but they\u2019re not helpful. In fact, this kind of <strong>negative self-talk <\/strong>will bring down your mood, drain your motivation, and erode your confidence. <\/p>\n<p>When you lack confidence, others can sense it. And if <em>you<\/em> don\u2019t believe in your potential, why would a hiring manager?<\/p>\n<h3>How to Stop Negative Self-Talk<\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"rm-shortcode\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The key is to reframe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>There\u2019s a big difference between \u201cI\u2019ll never be good at this\u201d and \u201cI need to practice this skill more.\u201d One shuts down growth. The other opens the door to improvement.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you\u2019re frustrated because your co-worker Bob got the promotion you were hoping for. Instead of thinking:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI must be terrible at my job. No matter how hard I work, it\u2019s not enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Try reframing it:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m disappointed, but I\u2019ll use this as motivation to grow. What can I improve before the next opportunity?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s okay to feel frustration, disappointment, or even anger, but don\u2019t let those emotions write the story of your career.<\/p>\n<h3>The Reframing Challenge<\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Every time a negative thought about yourself pops into your head today, <em>pause <\/em>and then <strong>reframe<\/strong> it. Turn that critical voice into a coaching voice. Make it actionable. Make it constructive.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a simple formula to try:<\/p>\n<p><strong>NST Thought:<\/strong> \u201cI failed that interview.\u201d<br \/><strong>Reframed Thought:<\/strong> \u201cThat interview didn\u2019t go well.
