O&#8217;Donnell, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jtodonnell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LinkedIn Influencer<\/a> and founder of Work It DAILY. \u201cIt does not get read.&#8221; This is especially true if you plan to write an \u201cobjective&#8221; statement about yourself such as: \u201cI&#8217;m a high-achieving top performer with outstanding and incredible skills\u2026&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is a huge no-no, according to J.T. \u201cI get the same answers all the time from recruiters\u2014they don&#8217;t like [summary statements],&#8221; she says. \u201cIn fact, it&#8217;s like double nails on a chalkboard to a recruiter to see [them].&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Why A Resume Summary Doesn&#8217;t Work<\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"rm-shortcode\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indeed.com\/career-advice\/resumes-cover-letters\/how-long-do-employers-look-at-resumes#:~:text=On%20average%2C%20employers%20look%20at,for%20only%20a%20few%20seconds.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Studies<\/a> show that you have six seconds to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.workitdaily.com\/how-to-make-resume-better\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">make an impression with your resume<\/a>. According to J.T., recruiters will scan your resume in a Z-pattern (left to right across the top fold, down across the page, and over). In those six seconds, they have to decide if they&#8217;re going to keep reading. This includes changing your top fold from a summary or objective statement to an experience summary, which is a list of 6-8 hard or transferable skills needed for the specific job you&#8217;re applying for.
